Bhilai (DJN): A meaningful seminar on the theme Indian Knowledge Tradition was successfully organized at Siyan Sadan, Vaishali Nagar, under the aegis of the Bhilai Varishth Nagrik Mahasangh (BVNM). The keynote speaker was renowned litterateur Govind Pal. Eminent educationist Acharya Dr. Maheshchandra Sharma, litterateur Neha Varshney, and social thinker Rajkishor Gumasta were present as special guests. The programme was presided over by Ghanshyam Kumar Dewangan, President of the Mahasangh.

Delivering the keynote address, Govind Pal said that the Indian Knowledge Tradition is among the world’s oldest, richest, and continuously evolving traditions, and it remains highly relevant even today. Through various mythological and historical examples, he highlighted its global excellence. He described the Gurukul education system of institutions like Takshashila as exemplary. He noted that the knowledge and philosophy expressed in the Vedas, Upanishads, Ramayana, and Mahabharata are deeply connected with human life, conduct, culture, spirituality, science, Ayurveda, yoga, and nature. He remarked that despite repeated attempts by invaders, Mughals, and the British to destroy it, the greatness of the Indian Knowledge Tradition has endured. He advocated integrating the essence of the Gurukul system into the modern education framework.

Dr. Maheshchandra Sharma stated that for centuries, the experienced elder generation has continuously enriched the Indian Knowledge Tradition through Gurukuls, families, and society. He emphasized that India is a land of sages and agrarian tradition, which forms the core of its greatness. He described the breadth and tolerance of the Indian Knowledge Tradition as its most distinctive features and explained how elders transmitted the wisdom of the Vedas, Upanishads, folk tales, proverbs, devotional songs, and customs to successive generations through memory and lived experience.

In his presidential address, Ghanshyam Kumar Dewangan said that the Indian Knowledge Tradition inspires human beings to follow the path of noble thoughts, righteous conduct, dharma, and public welfare. He expressed pride in this heritage and noted that its core message is balanced life awareness, which motivates individuals to apply ideals of life, knowledge, and ethical values in practical living. He emphasized that the Indian Knowledge Tradition is not merely a legacy of the past but a powerful guide for the present and the future, teaching the art of living, duty and compassion, knowledge and wisdom, and balance between the individual and society.

During the seminar, Rajkishor Gumasta, Neha Varshney, Ramayan Mishra, and others shared their views on Indian culture, philosophy, religion, ethical values, and life practices. All speakers described the Indian Knowledge Tradition as the finest in the world and stressed the need to pass it on to future generations.

On this occasion, the English book “Healing: A Journey from Pain to Power” authored by Neha Varshney was formally released. A collective birthday celebration was also held for senior citizens Ratanlal Goyal, Dr. H. R. Varshney, Sureshchandra Jain, and Suresh Ratnani, whose birthdays fall in December. Scholars conveyed birthday greetings in Sanskrit and wished them long, healthy, and happy lives.

Shailja Varshney presented a dais stand to the Bhilai Varishth Nagrik Mahasangh for the stage. The cultural segment featured soulful bhajans and old melodies presented by singers Joseph, Deepak Tahilramani, Santosh Jatav, Santosh Shukla, and Dinesh Gupta, captivating the audience.

As part of a unique and inspiring initiative, senior litterateurs Govind Pal and Neha Varshney donated copies of their authored books, while senior social worker Rajkumar Gumasta donated a set of 25 books and scriptures published by Gita Press to the Vaishali Nagar Siyan Sadan library.
